Well, I touch base with the staff often, so I'll ask them
2020 They rotate the items on their meat & 3 each week. I think they have fried chicken everyday and its delish! Every single thing I've eaten there is yummy! They will tell u menu if u call. Thats what I do & while on phone place my Togo order.
I would think it's because majority of their customers work downtown & restaurant is also located downtown. Downtown workers work between 7a-6p & lunch 11a-2:30p. So they wouldn't make enough to profit after 3pm
The food is GOOD!😋You have to try the Potatoes salad, it's homemade. You can tell that everything is made with Love and attention. I try everything on my family plate. We even took desserts home.
First I would just like to start off by saying that everyone was super sweet and welcoming and nice. But unfortunately the food was just way too greasy for me. I ordered the western omelette with bacon. I didn't realize that it came with grits and toast. The grits and omelet were served on the same plate and all of the butter from the Grits ran under the Omelette it was just super super greasy. The flavor would have been good if it hadn't been for all the grease now the bacon had a awful taste to it I don't know if it was the way it was smoked or what but I didn't like it. However the toast was wonderful. I did taste the grits even though I'm not a fan of grits but they were very Bland I didn't like them. But like I said everyone was super welcoming and nice I bet some of the other food is wonderful. But as of today on my first visit I can only give it three stars because of the wonderful friendliness and great service.
The cornbread is delicious, prices are very reasonable for what all you get, and everything on the menu is delicious. Dont try the banana cake, please dont do that because I want to hoard it all for myself!
1 star only because you have to leave a star. Ordered sides of lima beans & field peas...they contained pork, so we asked for substitutes. Server said the only options were rice & greens. We subbed 1 of each. Waitress brought it out & it turned out the greens had pork in it too! When it was addressed with waitress she lied & said she told us it had pork...No time for unaccountable liars!
Exactly what I was looking for, delicious Southern comfort food. The flavors are excellent, the staff is friendly, the service was good.
Chicken and red velvet cake was delicious
This place has been around for a long time. The food is good, the service is great but I did not like the German Chocolate Cake.
Best meal around.
Believe the hype! We took a chance and went here on a trip to the Equal Justice Initiative museum (which is fantastic too!) and we were blown away by the amazing food. It is so so good!
Horrible experience! Don't even think about it
Great food and staff super friendly! Ordered cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving - tastes just like my Mom's did.
OMG...AGAIN I SAY OMG!!! THEY ARE SO SWEET, EVEN THE CUSTOMERS ARE FRIENDLY AND THEY SPEAK. Its the best southern restaurant you want to visit down here. The food is amazing. Its tucked away and not plainly seen but its phenomenal. You have got to drop in for breakfast or lunch.
Great home cooking seasoned well and quick service.
The service was fast, and the food was delicious! I definitely recommend the turnip greens
The waitress was slow in checking with me in refilling my beverage .
Always great everytime! Excellent choices for vegetables here. Highly recommend!
Oxtails or a delicious everything was great And we didn't have to wait very long to be served
This place is an old favorite. My aunt would take me all the time when I was much younger. We’d sit at the booth and dine in. Nowadays, when I visit I order to go. It still has that old school vibe, which is nice and nostalgic. The best part of this place to me are their cakes and pies! Absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend if you’re into soul food with a touch from the past.
Food is very good and homey. The first time I ate was better than the second time. The prices are a little high. The one thing that was consistent was the delicious corn muffins. They need a sign because it looks a little dumpy from the outside but it is very clean and family style seating.
Great Place, Great Service, AWESOME Food! A MUST VISIT!!!
Several of us went there for lunch. It's a meat and three place. I was a bit suspicious when I saw the menu had no prices indicated. I asked and our waitress told me it depended on which meat was ordered. I got turkey with dressing, yams, lime beans and potato salad since they were out of slices tomatoes (which was surprising because we were almost the first ones in). The turkey was okay but more like turkey/dressing stew than sliced turkey. The potato salad and lime beans were okay but the yams tasted like someone poured a bottle of karo syrup into it before serving. One bite of that was more than enough for me. Three of my coworkers ordered mac and cheese and nobody ate it because it was way too salty. End of story, got charged almost fifteen dollars each for our food. Way too pricey for the quality and choices.
We just happened upon this restaurant and what a great find it was. Food was absolutely delicious and service was friendly.
Great food, longer than usual wait time for service for ox tails on Thursday. Different teams on select days which is great.
The food was just like going to my grandmother's house. Awesome, simple southern comfort food at it's best! The menu is simple and changes daily. We had the fried chicken and vegetable plate. Perfectly seasoned and very tasty.Very clean, simple decor, and family friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Lots of local folks like this spot. I had gone there several times--each time with more people on my tab. My first visit was just 2 of us. The day that I had 8 family members was my last visit. Some of the women did not like the idea of tables and bathroom being so near to each other. They advertise certain items being on a breakfast order. They were out of grits and refused to discount the cost of them from my tab. To me a place is judged by quality of food, portion in relation to cost, and S E R V I C E to make things right. The best of a manager would have made tab adjustments, and not charge a customer for an item that he or she did not get$$$
Best fried chicken and cornbread I've ever had!
The cabbage, buttered squash and country fried steak were beyond amazing. Don't forget the cornbread muffins. Wow.
I have not eaten here in more than 20 years but OMGoodness!! It’s just as delicious as I remember and Shelia is still as hilarious as everyone says she is!!
Excellent food. Best pancakes I have ever had. Friendly service.
Delicious! I didn't have to add anything to it, though customers with a sweet tooth might want to add sugar. I got it with almond milk (they have soy as well) and it's very creamy and smoothI highly recommend Cafe 153 if you're in the Bridge Street area!Right off, my five star review does not include their bagels or croissants or waffles
Absolutely loved the place, most aunthintic down-home style fried chicken, corn bread and fixins I have had in a long time. Extremely friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere as well. Dont pass up this one, these places are almost all gone.
My favorite soul food restaurant
Summer 2017This is your country cooking meat and three kind of restaurant. You don't go for the view, location, air conditioning, decor or parking. You go cause you're hungry for some comfort food. I've not been here in a while. It's not... or it wasn't as good as I remember it being... (my opinion on this particular day/menu) Prices are high for what I got on my to-go plate. Chicken (breast & leg) was over cooked and crust was too hard to bite. They were out of cornbread. It was too hot to stay and eat there so I got mine to go.
I had a birthday party for my girl friend 55 and Davis Cafe catered the food it was great they got great compliments on their food from her family and friends .
I was visiting from out of town and was recommended Davis Cafe for Lunch (not open for Dinner). I got a Meat and Two. Turkey and Dressing (only available certain days?), butter beans and candied yams. The Turkey and cornbeard stuffing was amazing, butter beans were great and yams were cooked to perfection and like dessert they were so sweet and delicious. The cornbeard muffins they served with the meal were a perfect compliment. Services was fast and friendly and prices were fair. When I'm in town again, I'm definitely coming back!!
The best. We stepped into a wonderfully hidden, taste of home cooking. Very good Soul food place to eat.
Great place to feel like home
Great Staff the food is Hot an Fresh great price's ## The Oxtails with gravy an rice was A fav for me .👏
The food was just like going to my grandmother's house. Awesome, simple southern comfort food at it's best! The menu is simple and changes daily. We had the fried chicken and vegetable plate. Perfectly seasoned and very tasty. Very clean, simple decor, and family friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
I haven't been here in years and I normally go for breakfast. I should've stuck to just that. Missed breakfast and stayed for lunch...first time ever. It was horrible. The fried chicken tasted of just grease. No seasoning whatsoever!!! The cabbage was seasoned but overcooked and the fried okra was just as bad as the chicken. Greasy and tasteless. To top all that off, the sweet tea was the worse this side of the Mason-Dixon line. Straight sugar water and ice. When I mentioned it to TWO servers they both offered to bring me UNSWEETENED tea to mix it in!?!? Who does that????? The service was subpar not to mention. I don't plan on returning not even for breakfast. This place has really gone down and I'm done with it.
Authentic old school Montgomery soul food. Breakfast is traditional - eggs, meat, hotcakes- with a side of toast and grits. Lunch is a meat and three with the usual fixin's. Literally, OLD school in the building circa forty-fifty something years ago but don't let that scare you. And this is a family spot. If you act the fool or turn up your nose, the ladies bringing your food will not hesitate to let you know what you can do with that attitude.
Turkey was cold, food just ok
Good food. Turkey and dressing on Wednesday.
This used to be my favorite soul good place. The food used to be real, the cornbread used to be greasy, the place used to be packed, and it had good prices. Since the mother or older waitress died, things have gone downhill. Recently, my fish mac and cheese and tea was 11.00. The mac and cheese was neon orange, not close to real. The fish appeared to have been cooked in chicken grease and the cornbread was dry and rubbery. They were out of most items. While this was explained to the Hispanic family, I had to ease drop to get this information. I probably will not go back. I like Martha on the east side.
The best pancakes and omelettes I have ever had, but they take a while to get out to you.
Delicious food. Cash only.
Must visit when in Montgomery. Offers a daily selection of southern favorites. Parking is plentiful on the street but did seem like a free for all to me as an out of towner.
First time in Montgomery and this was a great place for Southern food. Everyone in our party loved their food. Food was seasoned perfectly. Simple memu but meats and vegetables were just like grandma made. Top off meal with homemade banana pudding.Great stop for a quick lunch at the Davis cafe. Fall off the bone juicy ribs, "just right" fried whiting fish,
Amazing food. I felt like a kid sitting in my grandparents’ kitchen again. Absolutely delicious food & friendly people.
Because it is simply home away from original home. People been making sure I am good since I came to Montgomery. Been here since 1992 from Miami and Montgomery is home ever since. Davis Cafe, I love not only the food but the people. Shout out Nae Sheila Auntie and the whole crew. IN MY SHEILA VOICE, I NEED AAANNNNDDDDEEEERRRSSOOON
